While chasing the story of the decade, budding investigative reporter, Linda Santos uncovers an ugly world of violence and domestic terror that hits closer to home than she could have ever imagined with an impact spanning from Hollywood starlets to housewives to her very own newsroom.
Only Way Out was developed through the partnership of two writers, Monique Pearl (Nadiri Creative Media) and Jamel Latimore (We Write Films) and filmed by a culturally diverse crew in Atlanta, GA. OWO is multicultural – centering on the impact of domestic violence on people of ALL genders, races, ages and socio-economic statuses. Monique (Writer/Director/Producer) & Jamel (Poet/Playwright) developed the idea for Only Way Out after she and her husband, Ron Younger, coproduced his play, ‘Soundtrack Covered in Black’ alongside Joyce Littel of V-103, Quiet Storm fame.
Telling this story was an aggressive endeavor for the skeleton production crew that we had. There were far too many characters and wildly ambitious storylines that required stunts, specific sets and some special effects. For a first time production, a little prudence would have served us well. Our biggest mistake was not having a scripty on set. We did not keep track of the takes or the timecodes so editing was just an unwieldy beast. The task was daunting, to say the least, and it left me overwhelmed and exhausted.
